Love of Faith walk raises funds for Sense International
Sense International has been presented with a cheque of £65,000 raised by the interfaith Love of Faith charity walk, which was organised by Jain organisation Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur (UK).
It was held in June in central London and encompassed visits to different places of worship. Five hundred walkers and numerous corporate contributions gathered an amazing £130,000.
The funds will support underprivileged children’s health and welfare projects in developing countries, including Sense International’s programmes for deafblind children. Sense International provides services and raises awareness of the needs of deafblind people and their families so they can connect, participate and contribute to their communities.
Mayur Mehta, president of SRMD UK, commented: “We take for granted our ability to see and hear, and the incredible work of Sense highlights the sheer challenge faced to help improve the lives of those who are multi-sensory impaired. We very much admire the dedication of their staff and hope the funds raised will make a difference to many lives.”
SI Chairman Sunil Sheth, said:” With donations like these, we can continue our work with deafblind children in developing countries, teaching them to communicate, to develop self-care skills, and provide vocational training. With the right level of sustained support, deafblind children and young adults can and do contribute to their families, and to society in general.”
The Mayor of Harrow Cllr Nizam Ismail and Harrow Cllr Ajay Maru attended the event, which took place at Sense’s Anne Wall Centre in Barnet on Friday, 14 of December.
