Home-based support

Sense International India brings specialist services to the communities and homes where deafblind people live through home-based care. This enables anyone affected by deafblindness to get the support they need — even those living in remote areas, those with limited mobility, and those with limited incomes.

Home-based services have many benefits for families and communities. Experience shows that when a deafblind child learns successfully in the presence of his or her family, the family members are much more likely to have positive and supportive attitudes about their child's potential. This leads to better results and improves the family's ability to care for their child.

In addition, home-based care often includes picnics and outings, parents' meetings, and festivals, which bring neighbours and others in a community together with deafblind people and their families. This helps to increase people's understanding about disability, and reduce the stigma associated with it.
