Support groups
Sense International (India) creates opportunities for deafblind people, their families and those who care for them to come together and support one another through support groups and peer networks.
National Networks of Families and Teachers of Deafblind People
With the support of Sense International (India), numerous networks were formed around the country and officially registered under the Societies Registration Act and the Bombay Public Trust Act:
Teachers' Network (Abhi–Prerna): Local and regional teachers' networks throughout the country come together to form the national Teachers' Network, with the ultimate goal of sharing experiences and providing peer support, encouragement, motivation and professional recognition.
Family Network (Prayas): This group enables families to talk about their struggles and achievements with other families who have deafblind children. This can help them to adjust to the unique needs of their deafblind family members; to find new tools, techniques and services for support; and to raise a collective voice in government in support of the rights of deafblind people.
Deafblind People's Network (Udaan): As Sense International India has worked to identify more and more deafblind people who need support, they have also helped to create opportunities for these people to come together and support one another. The Deafblind People's Network provides hope and friendship for deafblind people, as well as solidarity for raising issues important to people with multiple disabilities.
