Support groups

Sense International (Latin America) creates groups and networks for deafblind people, their families and those who care for them. These groups meet periodically to allow their members to support one another and to talk about the challenges and needs of deafblind people.

National deafblind networks

We support Grupo Brasil, the main network of the region, and, based on this model, in 2006, we created new national networks in Colombia for people affected by or involved with deafblindness.

Parents' groups

We established new parents' groups in Bolivia and in Colombia, through which parents of deafblind children can talk about their struggles and achievements with other families who have deafblind children.

This type of support can help parents to adjust to the unique needs of their deafblind family members; to find new tools, techniques and services for support; and to raise a collective voice in government in support of the rights of deafblind people.

The parents' associations in Bolivia, Colombia and Brazil have all participated in local committee meetings at government offices.
