Sense International (Latin America)

Sense International's very first international programmes started in Latin America in 1995.

Since then, we have established offices in Bogotà - Colombia, La Paz - Bolivia, and Lima - Peru, supporting 24 partner organisations to provide expert services and make a huge difference to the lives of deafblind people and their families.

Sense International (Latin America) has recently been awarded a grant of £464,410 from the Big Lottery Fund which will allow us to work with our existing partners in the region to develop lasting services for deafblind people and their families. In addition to funding essential services to help to identify, assess and provide educational facilities for deafblind people, the grant will help to strengthen representative associations of parents and deafblind people and expand the innovative volunteer network trained to support services, from where the network is currently based in Colombia to embrace the whole region.

Sense International (Latin America) will also use the grant to develop the local capacity of the partners and raise awareness of deafblindness in the region. This will help to maximize the impact and the sustainability of services for deafblind people in the longer term.
