Trek Turkey information
Itinerary
The planned itinerary follows. Please note that your guide may change the day-by-day programme at his discretion if local conditions require.
Day 1
We fly to Antalya and transfer (four hours) to our hotel in Kas. This fishing village, with whitewashed houses covered in rich purples of bougainvillea, lies on a small bay nestled into the mountains not far from the southern point of Lycia. Here we have a welcome meal and meet our team of guides who will be with us for the Challenge.
Day 2
After a good Turkish breakfast our Challenge begins. We take a high route along a rocky ridge above the coastline which descends now and then to beautiful beaches and up to olive groves crossed with goat tracks We end the day at the ruins of Apollonia, believed to exist in the fourth century BC as a strong fortress home to an important ruler. Tonight we stay at the nearby village of Kilincli where we have a delicious dinner and well-deserved rest.
Day 3
We start the day along a descending trail to the ruins of the village of Aperlai and into its heart with its well-preserved Lycian tombs. This village stretches down to the shoreline with harbour buildings now underwater due to earthquake subsistence. We have time to explore this historic area and break for lunch and a swim. In the afternoon we board our boat and, surrounded by turquoise waters, we explore more ruins, both on land and below water. We cruise to the island of Kekova to discover the Xera ruins, climb to Simena castle and see the sunken parts of the Dolichiste. Our day ends in the flower-filled village of Ucagiz where we stay the night.
Day 4
For our last trekking day we leave Ucagiz behind and trek through the ruins of Simena, topped by a fortified castle with its lovely theatre inside. We rejoin the coastal path and trek through the open fields, past a fortress, a boathouse and then over rougher terrain to the village of Kapakli where we stop for lunch. This afternoon we follow a delightful old road along the clifftops, above a sheer-sided inlet to Gravel Beach. Here we can have a refreshing dip in the cool waters before our final push into Andriake. From here we make our way back to Kas and our hotel for the night. We celebrate tonight with a gala meal of delicious fresh local foods and toast our achievements with our new friends.
Day 5
We leave Kas and make our way back to Antalya for the flight home.
Fundraising targets and costs

Sense International must receive your £150 deposit upon registration and then the remaining cost for your trip (£800) by 11 August 2008. We hope you will then be able to forward the money you have raised in sponsorship by 20 October 2008.
