Working with deafblind adults
Part of Sense International’s home-based care programme helps young adults to develop a trade and contribute financially to their family and community, usually in line with activities of the rest of the community, such as learning to sew, breaking stones, making and selling sweets, etc.
This allows them to achieve greater independence and a better quality of life. In India, for example, Sense International employs deafblind adults in a pasta factory and provides training in computing and printing.
In Latin America, volunteer communicator guides assist deafblind adults in finding work placements.
Sense International also supports local deafblind organisations, such as the Association of Deafblind Adults in Romania, which offers peer support, opportunities for social interaction, training and advocacy support for deafblind adults.
