International Day of Education

Changing Course, Transforming Education

24 January 2022 is the fourth United Nations International Day of Education. This day marks education as key to international development. Without inclusive education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will exclude vulnerable adults and children from society.

Over the festive period, our amazing team in Romania led a residential trip for young people with deafblindness/MSI and their families. The trip brought together ten wonderful young people, three parents and two siblings to spend a few days together in the Romanian mountain range. They learnt about the rights of people with disabilities, how best to communicate with people with deafblindness as well as the importance of showing respect towards different communities of people with disabilities.

Educating today’s generation about their rights is crucial for building a better society for future generations. Some of the young people present on this trip have been supported by Sense International Romania throughout their life: from early intervention services as infants through to accessing high-quality education and vocational services as students. Now, as young adults, they embark on a journey learning how to become leaders and advocates for the rights of people with deafblindness.

Happy International Day of Education!
