Statutory and Institutional funding

The support of governments and other funding organisations enables us to make a long-term impact on the lives of people with deafblindness around the world.

Sense International has a track record of successful partnerships with governments and other funding organisations. Many have worked with us for a number of years and in more than one country, with a widening range of locally-led approaches and partnerships. This support has had a wide-ranging impact, with approaches being embedded within local systems for sustainability. For example, it has enabled us to:

These projects, among others, have been made possible over the years by funding partnerships with the Australian High Commission Direct Aid Programme; Enabel, the Belgian Development Agency (funded by the European Union); the European Union; Canada Fund for Local Initiatives; Canadian Government and Lego Foundation through Canda Grand Challenges, Comic Relief; the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO – UK Aid); Government of the Faroe Islands; Government of Norway (Norad) in partnership with Signo; Guernsey Overseas Aid and Development Commission; Jersey Overseas Aid; The National Lottery Community Fund;

Sense International and our project partners would like to thank these funding organisations for supporting our work in East Africa, Asia, Europe and South America.

The Inclusive Futures consortium

One of our largest partnerships over recent years has been the Disability Inclusive Development (DID) Inclusive Futures programme, led by Sightsavers and supported by the FCDO (2018-2026). As part of this consortium, we focused on the inclusion of people with deafblindness and complex disabilities, demonstrating effective approaches for disability inclusion. The in-business project in Kenya was selected for the Zero Project Award 2025, reflecting its innovative approaches to disability inclusion and livelihoods.

“Sense International’s expertise was central to the successes of the Disability Inclusive Development – Inclusive Futures programme. I was particularly struck by what I saw in Tanzania with approach it was taking to reduce stigma and increase the number of children with disabilities attending school for the first time.”

– Daryl Lloyd (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office – FCDO; Disability inclusion programme lead)

International Aid Transparency Initiative

Sense International publishes on the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI). This is a voluntary, multi-stakeholder initiative aiming to make information about aid spending easier to find, use, and compare.
