The recent tragedy at Salama School

1 November 2022

Everyone at Sense and Sense International are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of 11 children as a result of a fire at Salama School for the Blind in Mukono District, Uganda, on Tuesday 25th October. Our thoughts, at this time, are with the families and everyone that has been affected.

Sense International Uganda and Kilimanjaro Blind Trust Africa have been working with the school to ensure students are equipped with specialist equipment to aid their school work.

Sense International Patron, The Princess Royal, was due to visit the school on Friday 28th October. As a result of the fire, Her Royal Highness instead visited the charity at its Head Office in Kampala, where Her Royal Highness met with families supported by Sense International. A minute’s silence was observed in respect for the young lives lost in the tragic fire at Salama School.
