International Day of Deafblindness 2026
On 27th June we celebrate International Day of Deafblindness, a day which raises awareness, highlights the barriers faced by people with deafblindness around the world, and calls for action, provision, and inclusion.

In 2025, 27th June was officially recognised as International Day of Deafblindness, an incredible step forward in global deafblind awareness and advocacy. This milestone moment in disability advocacy puts deafblindness on the agenda of governments and organisations around the world, paving the way for policy which considers the inclusion and access of people with deafblindness in all areas of life, from healthcare and education to social security and employment. With awareness, we take the first step toward action.
This year, we’re celebrating throughout the week leading up to International Day of Deafblindness by raising awareness about deafblindness, reflecting on the progress that still needs to be made, and sharing ideas to get involved.
We spoke to people with deafblindness, parents, and teachers about what awareness means to them and what they want people to know about deafblindness; interviewed Dr. Sanja Tarczay from the World Federation of the Deafblind about their campaign to have the day officially recognised; and are shining a spotlight on how you can support Sense International’s work supporting people with deafblindness around the world.

Recognising International Day of Deafblindness
International Day of Deafblindness was officially recognised as an awareness day by the United Nations in 2025, following a joint campaign with the World Federation of the Deafblind.
